About Bud:

Bud Anderson has been involved with motorcycles and racing since the early 1970's. Working as a mechanic and service manager in several bay area dealerships, I learned the finer points of the service end of motorcycling. During those early years, I raced motocross with the CMC then tried my hand at motorcycle drag racing, all while being an avid street rider. In 1986 when the motorcycle industry was floundering a bit, I was fortunate enough to transfer into the auto service division of a local Honda dealership, where I spent several years learning the importance of good customer service.

1996 turned out to be year that would eventually lead me to AFM road racing, with the start of a new career at Concord Honda Automobiles.  My new boss, Keith Ketchum, was and is, a devout motorcyclist and former AFM road racer in the mid 80's. Our common love for performance motorcycles led to a strong friendship that continues to this day. After too many fast Sunday street rides through the Bay Area twisty roads, Keith suggested that we get off of the street and get on the race track where we could challenge our skills in a safe environment. That's where it all started. Keith, good friend Jerry LeMasters and I made the trek to Buttonwillow raceway in March of 2001 to get our AFM licenses so we could start riding Saturday AFM practice sessions. Afterwards, we planned to watch the Sunday races, since none of us had any intention of racing - especially me at age 45. It  seemed a shame that our brand new race licences should go unused that Sunday, so we all entered a race. I was hooked, to say the least. I was slow as hell and probably got in the way, but I vowed not to get lapped in the first Open Twins Race of my racing career.

Fast forward to today.  I'm a proud staff member and new racer's school instructor for Michael Earnest's Pacific Track Time. I'm still competing in the Open Twins class as well as the Formula 40 class. With coaching and encouragement from Michael Earnest and Open Twins fast guy, Pat Blackburn, I took second place two years running in the Open Twins Championship, and second and third in the Formula 40 Championship for the 2005 and 2006 AFM season. With a meticulous nature and attention to detail I've been able to keep my old 2000 Honda RC51 a very competitive and reliable racer. I have no intention of quitting the sport I love any time soon so, I have created Bud Anderson's Race Prep. Aimed at veteran racers that don't want to go through the rigors of getting their race bikes ready for the race season year after year, new racers, and track day riders that either don't have the skill, don't know how to prepare their bikes, or just want to focus on their riding and not have to worry about AFM, AMA and track day tech inspections.
